Comparative Test 9 ink All-in-Ones up to 200 Euros: Print speed: Text, photos, graphics
The most frequent print job is the output of a single page. So the time this takes is important.
And to test print speed under real-life-conditions, the lab uses a 10-page document as well.
In addition we test the print speed for a photo and a page with graphics.
Print speed: Text
We use two documents for that:
- ISO 10561, Dr. Grauert: A simple one-side text without graphics. This is used to test FPO (first page out) and copy speed (fastest print speed possible).
- Ten-page business document: 10 pages with text, a company logo, a table, and a pie chart. It is sent to the printers in three modes: Fast mode (draft), normal mode (no change in the drivers), and quality mode.
FPO - first page out
The most frequent print job for a basic printer or AIO is the output of a single page. So the time this takes is important.
Copy-mode
The lab sends one page (Dr. Grauert, ISO 10561) to each printer, demanding eleven copies. After the first page is in the output bin, timing begins, and ends, when the last page is printed.
Copy-mode informs you about maximum print speed possible under ideal conditions.
For FPO all AIOs are sufficiently fast, except for the Epsons. In copy mode, however, the Epsons excel, just the Canons are pretty slow here.

Ten-page business document
To test print speed under real-life-conditions the lab uses a 10-page document, which is sent to the printers in three modes: Fast mode (draft), normal mode (no change in the drivers), and quality mode.
The Epson AIOs with their high speed of print do very well in this test. HP is a bit slower. Brother and Canon are noticably slower.

Print speed: Photo and graphic print
Print speed for a high-quality photo in A4 on photo paper is tested using the photo below (left side).
Speed of graphic print is tested with an A4 graphic (below, right side), using ink-jet paper the manufacturer recommends. The drivers are set to highest quality.

Lexmark excels in this test. Only Canons Pixma MG5250 comes near their speed when printing a photo. Allow some extra time if you print photos and graphics with Canons MG5150.

We determine print speed for a photo, 10x15 cm, seamless, on photo paper.
The seamless print speed results in the same ranking order as in our test with an A4 photo.
