Comparative Test 9 ink All-in-Ones up to 200 Euros: An overview: Nine AIOs

Brother DCP-J515W and MFC-J615W

Brother has two AIOs in this test: A DCP- and a MFC-AIO. DCP stands for digital copier and printer - and that´s without fax. MFC means multifunction center - with a fax. Both have a big display and Wlan connectivity. All differences are shown in the table below.

You pay approximately 150 Euros for the DCP-J515W, the MFC-J615W is for sale for about 200 Euros.

Brother DCP-J515W: Flat AIO without ADF (automatic document feeder) and no fax or Ethernet. Wlan on board.

The MFC-J615W comes with ADF and fax. It also works with high-yield ink cartridges, resulting in lower cost of printing. Both have no duplex-unit.

Brother MFC-J615W: With ADF, high yield ink cartridges, fax, Wlan and Ethernet.

Canon Pixma MG5150 and Pixma MG5250

DC takes a closer look at two Pixma-AIOs made by Canon, MSRP 120 and 170 Euros. They are different in number of nozzles (which means speed of printing), CD-print capability, and connectivity (Wlan). Highlights are two paper trays, one at the backside, one at the bottom. No other AIO in this test sports that. They come without fax and automatic document feeder (ADF), however.

Surprise: If you send a print job to these Canons, and the front cover is closed, it will open automatically, to avoid crumpling of the sheets.

Canon Pixma MG5150: No ADF, no CD-print, no Wlan - but two paper trays.

Canon names ink-AIOs as follows: MG for consumer solutions, MX for the office.

Canon Pixma MG5250: Looks just like the MG5150, but offers additional features like Wlan, CD-print, and higher speed of printing.

Epson Stylus Office BX525WD and Stylus SX620FW

Epson calls its ink-AIOs Stylus Office BX- and Stylus SX. AIOs for the office aren´t necessarily better equipped than non-office AIOs, as our test will show you. The Office BX525WD comes with Wlan and automatic double-sided printing, but without fax and ADF. The Stylus SX620FW has Wlan, fax, and ADF. Both can´t print on CDs and come with just one paper tray (Compare to Canon AIOs).

Epson Stylus Office BX525WD: Has Wlan, duplex unit, but no ADF and fax.

You may buy these AIOs, Stylus Office BX525WD and Stylus SX620FW, for 130 and 180 Euros.

Epson Stylus SX620FW: No duplex unit, with ADF, fax, and Wlan.

HP Officejet 6500A E710a and HP Photosmart Plus B210a

Our lab takes a closer look at HPs AIOs Officejet 6500A and Photosmart Plus. Both are available for about 150 Euros, but there are clear differences between them. The Officejet comes with a capacious paper tray, ADF,Wlan, Ethernet, and fax, ready to work for a small office. A duplex unit is not available, contrary to the manual´s information. CD-print isn´t a choice, too.

The Photosmart´s touchscreen is an eye-catcher. But the rest is marginal: No duplexer, no ADF, no fax, no CD-print. Only a Wlan connection is included.

HP Officejet 6500A E710a: Most of what you need is included - a duplexer isn´t available.

HP Photosmart Plus B210a: Big touchscreen display and Wlan - and not much more.

Lexmark Prospect Pro205

Lexmark labels their AIOs S or Pro. We think S stands for "Standard". For this test DC chose a professional AIO, Prospect Pro205. It´s available for 180 Euros.

This machine is well equipped: Duplexer, fax, Wlan, and automatic document feeder (ADF). But no CD-print, no Ethernet, no second paper tray.
