Clues and Knowhow Office Paper: Knowhow 3: What Paper is made of
Paper consists mainly of
- Fibres (pulp, mechanic pulp)
- Fillers (chalk, kaolin, talcum, gypsum, barium sulfate, titanium white)
- Starch (potatoes, corn)
- Excipients (colors, flocking agents) and
- water
There are two types of fibres:
- Raw material which is used for the first time, e.g. straw and wood (birch, beech, poplar, eucalyptus)
- Recyled paper.
