Canon Pixma iP4300 and Pixma iP3300: Outfit part I
Different outfits: Canon iP4300 and iP3300.As a successor to the well-liked the iP4200 the iP4300 comes along with familiar outfit. The iP3300 is a newcomer in the Pixma printer family.
The iP3300 is very similar to the iP2000 and the iP3000, which Canon put on the market in 2004 and 2005.
The iP3300´s outfit is like the iP2000´s: Pictbridge interface, print over the edge, second paper tray, that´s it.
The print head is similar to the one the iP3000 sports: all in all 1.600 nozzles for four colors with a droplet size of 2 pl. Like all new Pixma models the iP3300 uses the chipped PGI-5BK und CLI-8 ink cartridges.
In the iP4300 there has been no change in the outstanding outfit of the predecessor:
- Five cartridges (color, text- and photo black)
- CD-/DVD-printing
- automatic two-sided print
- two paper trays (150 pages each)
- PictBridge- and USB-interface
- over the edge print
The design reminds us of it´s predecessor iP4200. It has less curves, a flap that covers the front side completely, and a power switch near the upper right corner. And you will find again a very scratch sensitive plastic at the frontal flap, which came with the first Pixma generation.
The iP3300 comes along in a grey-blue case with a lot of curves.
CD-/DVD-print with the iP4300
Contrary to the cheaper iP3300 the iP4300 can print on CDs and DVDs, provided they have a special coated surface. To do that you put the CD or DVD into a caddy and push it into the printer from the front side. It takes the printer just about a minute to complete the print job.
For designing the cover Canon provides a software, CD-LabelPrint.
Workmanship
All in all the workmanship leaves a good impression. What we didn´t like was the iP3300´s extractable paper tray. It turns 90 degrees out of the frontal flap when extracted. We sometimes had problems trying to pull it out.
The iP4300 aligns its print heads automatically. Not so with the iP3300. You have to do that manually, in a slightly time consuming process.
Print heads
The two models have different print heads.
The iP4300´s print head is the same the fast iP5200 has. It has more than twice as many nozzles as the iP3300. Its droplet size is twice as big as the iP4300s.
These facts have a major influence on print speed and photo print quality. You find more on that on page 7.
