Clues and Knowhow Office Paper: Clue No. 6: Printer Wearout by Paper
Paper "suffers" a lot when beeing moved through a printer. Depending on printer and printing mechanism it is moved, pushed, and dragged, bent, pressed, and heated to temperatures higher than 200° Celsius.
Depending on paper quality lint accumulates inside and remains in the printer.
Additional dust is deposited, when paper fibres are not sufficiently interlinked.
Reason for additional printer wearout are cutting dust and burr.
Cutting dust is caused by blunt paper cutting knives, when the paper is tailored to the desired dimensions. The same applies to burr at the sheet´s edges.
Cutting dust
- dirties the inside of the printer
- deposits on feed rollers
- affects tranfer of toner
Burr
- causes feeding of several sheets
- can cause paper jams
- increases wearout of printer parts
DC advice: Check constantly, whether or not lint accumulates in your printer. This happens pretty often in printers with high workloads.
If lint is a persistent annoyance, you should change to another kind of paper.
