Comparative Test: HP Officejet Pro 8500 vs.Samsung CLX-3175FW: Printing Costs: How We Test
Our lab checks the cost of print by using standardized documents. A complete set of cartridges (ink or toner) is used until empty or the printer refuses to continue printing. We use the test-documents dc_leerdruck_5p.pdf (page with text, 5 percent coverage) and dc_fotoyield.tif (color page, A4).
How we do it
For the tests the lab always uses the consumables with the highest yield.
Text print: We print this document (dc_leerdruck_5p.pdf), until the black ink- or toner-cartridge is empty. Yield and cost of cartridge (MSRP) result in a price for one page of printed text.
Color print: A complete set of ink- or toner-cartridges is used. We print our test-document (dc_fotoyield.tif), until the first cartridge is empty. Unused toner or ink in other cartridges is determined using a precision scale. This way we find out the theoretical yield per cartridge.
