Comparative Test nine Low Cost Colorlasers: Speed of Text-printing
Depending on the printing technology (Single-pass
- or Multi-pass printers) there can be worlds apart in printing speed of text (black only) and color-printing.
The multi-pass printer Lexmark C500n achieves breezy 32,4 pages per minute when copying a page in black with five percent coverage, a text in color (five percent coverage as well) slows it down to eight ppm. And a document with text and some colored
elements (Business.doc) bring down the speed to 11 ppm.
You have to use this information with a grain of salt, as you can read below.
The single-pass printer Lexmark C530dn does it´s copy-work of B/W-text and color-text at the same speed of 20,9 ppm, and the test-document Business.doc ends up in the paper tray with 15,4 ppm.
HP´s Color Laserjet 2700 is the best allrounder. 29 ppm printing monochrome and 17 ppm colored text are a good performance.
And with our testdocument Business.doc the print speed is, depending on quality, between 12 and 18 ppm.

You won´t believe it
Lexmark´s C500n has passed the print-speed test with phenomenal results: More than 32 ppm pitchfork this low-price printer into the front echelon.
Printers thrice as expensive do not accomplish that. A Lexmark-miracle?
Plain truth
After 33 copies this printer takes a break for a minute. And proceeds to do so after every 33 copies. With a bigger printing task printing speed slows down to 15 ppm.
Same with color printing. What Lexmark tells the public about print speed applies to small tasks only.

High achiever
According to HP their Laserjet 2700 has a copy speed of 20 ppm, our tests find out 29 ppm.
