More Kodak-Cheats

Druckerchannel measures the print speed with many different files and different settings.

Our laboratory has noticed that the Kodak multifunction devices print strikingly more text-only pages if you have selected "black only" in the driver. For example, the Kodak ESP Office 6150 printed the b/w-document "ISO-19752" 290 times. Then the b/w ink cartridge 10B was empty. We made no changes in the drivers. In the second test we changed the driver mode to "black only". Now the Kodak printed 440 pages. This is a more than 50 percent difference, although it's the same document and the same quality setting ("Normal").

This means that Kodak changed the quality settings on its own to achieve a higher yield when printing in b/w only. So Kodak advertises a considerably higher page yield, which is just a cheat. Other printers from Brother, Canon, Epson, HP and Lexmark print the same number of ISO 19752 pages, whether or not the driver setting is "color" or "B/W".

Magnus Felke, director of product marketing at Kodak explains the difference of Kodak printers compared to other manufacturers as follows: "We have tuned our printers especially for a high range for black documents".

Druckerchannel published in june already about other Kodak cheatings.

The following scans prove, that Kodak actually changes the print quality to achieve a higher page yield:
