Layout, size, and weight

Mobile printers are designed for on the road use, so they have to be lightweights, easy to use, and cordless. That´s no problem with rechargeable batteries and WLAN.

Running with accumulator

Both printers can be operated with accumulators. With a fitting (optional) cable they also can be run via vehicle input. Accumulators are attached to the backside. Canon´s accumulator is pretty big, the printer gains in size. The HP mobile has a recess for the rechargeable battery.

The life-span of the accumulators our lab has determined on this page "Stamina and power consumption" in this comparative test.

Interfaces

Many printers and all-in-ones meanwhile have WLAN as a standard. This could have been the same with the two mobiles in this test. But for the Canon Bluetooth is just an option.

And HP provides only the most expensive model of the series with Bluetooth, the others have this as an option. If you want WLAN instead of Bluetooth, to cover a wider distance between notebook and printer than with Bluetooth, you have this option with HP only. Canon doesn´t offer this.

The picture on the left (below) shows the three Canon interfaces: Infrared, USB, and Pictbridge. To the right HP: Pictbridge and USB. On the right side a switch to choose between three WLAN sources.

Only HP´s Officejet H470 provides a cardreader for SD and MMC. You can copy data to your PC or direct-print your pictures. The pictures must be in DPOF (Digital Print Order Format). Printing of text- or PDF-data is not possible.

Floor plans

Looked at from above Canon´s mobile is wider and deeper, due to the accumulator:
