Test: HP Photosmart D5460

Looking at Hewlett-Packard’s new Photosmart D5469, it seems to be a common HP-printer. But if you take a closer look, you will find a completely new technology, which strongly resembles Canon’s Pixma iP4500. In this test, DC is going to examine, whether or not it can compare to Canon’s successful Pixma iP4500.

Printing CDs and DVDs

As it´s predecessors, the Photosmart D5460 can print on appropriate CDs and DVDs.

Handling has not changed. The CD drawer can be inserted below the paper bin, if it is not in use. For Canon and Epson printers you need an extra storage place.

CD drawer: For one CD or DVD for direct printing.

Smart: When not in use, the CD drawer is inserted into the printer.

Software for CD and DVD print comes from HP now, it can print the CD/DVD almost in full coverage.

The outer ring is limited to 118 millimeters, so with some discs there might remain a small not printed on border.

CD printig: Takes a bit longer than a minute.

Finished: The new software supports borderless print.

If you do not want to use prefab templates, you can create them yourself in an image editor.

It takes a bit more than a minute to print on a CD.
