Looking at Hewlett-Packard’s new Photosmart D5469, it seems to be a common HP-printer. But if you take a closer look, you will find a completely new technology, which strongly resembles Canon’s Pixma iP4500. In this test, DC is going to examine, whether or not it can compare to Canon’s successful Pixma iP4500.

Print quality and speed: Text

DC test letter

The lab uses two documents to test print speed and quality. One, called "Dr.-Grauert-Brief", is a normal text for testing the copy mode. Here we find out, whether or not the manufacturer exaggerated when referring to print speed. This letter can be found in Testdokumente.

In a second test we print a ten-sided text (Druckerchannel-Business-Brief). Besides the text it contains a company logo, a small table, and a pie-chart. This letter is printed in three modes: Normal mode (no change in the driver), fast mode (lowest resolution), and best quality (highest resolution).

The following pictures show the letter "a" in the three modes mentioned above.

HP ink printers have always excelled in printing text. And that continues to be valid with the D5460. Characters are printed jet black and pin sharp.

Print speed

Print speed of the Photosmart D5460, however, is average only. Canon´s Pixma iP4500 operates faster in all quality modes than the D5460. It´s maximum print speed in copy mode is 17.6 ppm.

Comparing text print quality

Compared to other ink printers there are differences in coverage and sharpness of edges.

In particular the very good coverage catches our eyes with the HP Photosmart D5460.
