Printercomparsion: Ink versus Laser Printers

The DC-lab wants to know all about the difference between ink- and lasertechnology. The lab test two network office printers, HP´s Officejet Pro K5400n (inkjet) versus Samsung´s CLP-300 (color laser).

Cost of print (effective reach and cost per page)

Druckerchannel checks the effective reach with high capacity cartridges, if available.

HP offers "XL-cartridges", Samsung doesn´t provide high capacity toner cartridges. The lab can print 1.992 text-pages with HP´s black cartridge, Samsung generates 1.504. Printing color graphics Samsung comes up with 251 pages, before the first color-cartridge is empty, HP accomplishes 122. Cost of print is shown on the following page.

Comparing costs per page (tested in our lab) Samsung´s color laser clearly drops behind. When printing text Samsung´s printer is 164 percent more expensive than HP´s (1.4 Cents per text-page HP, 3.7 Cents for Samsung). Similar when printing a page A4 in color: 41 Cents HP, 49 Cents Samsung.
