Workshop Change Waste-Ink-Tank Canon Pixma iP4000: How to exchange sponges
First you should consider what to do with the sponges. There are several possibilities:
You can buy sponges in online-shops specialized on spare parts.
For the Pixmas (only) you can buy a complete bottom-unit with sponges on it, which spares you the possible mess when removing the ink-filled sponges. However, you have to open the printer in either case. We recommend one of the above methods.
You can also take out the sponges and wash and dry them, thus however reducing their soaking capacity.
While working on the sponges, watch your clothing and your furniture: Ink-stains resist removal!
Prepare a working-space big enough for all parts you need. Put a thick layer of paper or a foil on it.
When disassembling the printer, never loosen one of the red screws.
What comes now is a procedure alike for all printer-models.
- Open the clips of the printer´s top (or parts of it) at all places marked by an arrow.
- Loosen the screws which connet the printer´s top with it´s bottom.
- Lift off the top.
- Exchange the sponges.
- Reassemble the printer in reverse order.
- Reset the counter (this can be done as a first, to avoid reset-problems after a strenous but successful exchange of the sponges).
We suggest to remove the paper tray before starting to work.
