Comparative Test: HP Officejet Pro 8500 vs.Samsung CLX-3175FW

This test compares two all-in-one devices which use different printing technologies: HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless AIO (with ink cartridges), costing round about 400 Euros, and Samsung CLX-3175FW (with toner cartridges) for about 500 Euros.

Quality Of Print: Water-/Smudge-Stability

DC-Test: dc_schmiertest.

This test shows, if text can be marked with a highlighter without smearing ink or toner. We also test, if ink and toner are waterproof. The test document used is dc_schmiertest.pdf.

Due to the use of pigmented ink HPs Officejet Pro 8500 prints waterproof sheets. Same with Samsungs CLX-3175FW, since it´s fuser blends the toner with the paper, using pressure and heat.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless AIO: No bleeding, HP uses pigmented ink in colors and black.

Samsung CLX-3175FW: Like in all color lasers no bleeding. Colors are fused with the paper.

That´s different in our test with a fluorescent marker: Pigmented ink cannot sink into the paper and remains on it´s surface. You cannot mark a printout of HPs Officejet Pro 8500 without smearing. Samsungs CLX-3175FW is, like all color laser printers, waterproof and shows no smudge.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless AIO: HPs ink smeares.

Samsung CLX-3175FW: No smear, colors are fused to the paper.
